Description

You are tasked with organising a delightful and active afternoon at a senior living centre. The objective is to create an engaging and enjoyable experience for the elderly residents, fostering intergenerational connections and bringing smiles to their faces.

Activities to consider:

Board Games Bonanza:

  • Organize a board game corner with classics like Scrabble, Chess, and Checkers.
  • Include simple card games that encourage interaction and friendly competition.

Interactive Storytelling:

  • Prepare short stories or anecdotes and encourage seniors to share their own.
  • Create a storytelling circle where students and seniors can exchange tales.

Seated Exercise Class:

  • Plan a light exercise session suitable for seniors, focusing on seated movements.
  • Include stretches, gentle yoga, or even a modified dance class.

Arts and Crafts Corner:

  • Set up a crafting station with easy and enjoyable projects.
  • Consider collaborative activities, like creating a mural or a group painting.

Music and Memories:

  • Arrange a musical performance or a sing-along session with classic tunes.
  • Share and discuss favourite songs, evoking memories and conversations.

Assignment Presentation:

Poster Creation:

  • Design an eye-catching poster promoting the event.
  • Include details such as date, time, and a brief description of the activities.

Class Presentation:

  • Each student presents their planned activities for the 2-hour afternoon.
  • Emphasise the significance of creating a positive and inclusive atmosphere.

  • In the planning and execution of the activities, what adjustments did you make to ensure that the event catered to the diverse interests and abilities of the seniors? How did these adaptations enhance the overall experience?
  • Reflect on the effectiveness of your communication with both the senior residents and your fellow students during the organisation of the event. How did clear communication contribute to the success of the activities? Are there areas for improvement?
