Description
When you work on a project, you may sometimes have to figure out why it is perceived to be problematic. Why it is not successful. In order to succeed it is necessary to find out if you have the right competences, motivation, resources and action plan to be able to actually solve the problem. If you lack any of these you might not succeed. Therefor it is very important to identify which part you miss before you start working on a new project.
You can use this exercise to simply prevent any difficulties in working with projects in the future.
To prevent problems when working on projects, it is important for everyone involved to clarify their part in the project.
Use post-it notes and write down everyone’s part in completing the goal –
- what skills they can contribute,
- what motivation they have for the task,
- what resources they see,
- how to tackle this (action plan)
When everything is written, you look at the whole picture and you will see more clearly if something is missing that we need to fix. Use the chart below to identify where you are lacking info.
Explanation of chart above:
- If we have a clear goal, we have all the competences, we have motivation, we have resources and an action plan to work with. Then we can create change!
- If we don´t have a set goal, how do we even know if we have the right competence, motivation, resources? How can we set an action plan? This makes us confused….
- If we have a clearly set goal – we might have lots of motivation and resources. But what if we have not the right competences to fulfill the action plan? This creats anxiety…
- If we have a clear goal, we have all the competences but we have no motivation what so ever, it will lead to resistance!
- If we have a clear goal, we have all the competences, we have motivation, but no resources to work and fulfill the action plan. Then we feel really frustrated!
- If we have a clear goal, we have all the competences, we have motivation, we have resources but no action plan we will be running in circles….
