Duration

40 minutes

Learning Outcomes

After completing this activity trainees/ learners will understand the significance of soft skills in both entrepreneurial ventures and traditional workplace settings. Students will engage in activities that help them develop these crucial skills.

Description

Introduction (15 minutes):
Begin by discussing the definition of soft skills and why they are important in the workplace and entrepreneurship. Highlight that while technical skills are essential, soft skills often determine an individual’s success in their career or entrepreneurial venture.

“Identifying Key Soft Skills” (20 minutes):
Divide students into small groups (3-5 students per group).
Provide each group with a list of soft skills (communication, teamwork, adaptability, problem-solving, leadership, time management, etc.).

Ask each group to select three soft skills they believe are the most important for success in both entrepreneurship and traditional workplaces.

Have each group explain their choices and provide examples of how these skills can be applied.

Questions for Reflections

  • Can you recall a real-life scenario where someone’s soft skills positively or negatively impacted a situation in a workplace or entrepreneurial setting?
  • How might a lack of soft skills hinder someone’s career progression or entrepreneurial journey?
  • Which soft skill do you personally feel most confident in, and why?
  • Which soft skill do you believe you need to further develop, and what steps can you take to improve it?
  • How do you plan to showcase your soft skills during an internship or when networking?

Scenario Scripts

 1. Your team is working on a major project that is crucial for the company. The deadline is tight, and the team is behind schedule. Stress levels are high, and there’s a noticeable tension among team members. Some team members are not contributing as much as others, leading to frustration and potential conflict. The team leader is struggling to keep everyone motivated and on track.

2. The company you work for has decided to implement a new technology system that will significantly change daily operations. This change has caused unease among employees, as they are required to learn new skills and adapt to new processes. Some employees are resistant to the change, worried about their ability to adapt, while others are excited about the new opportunities it presents.
